RACE REPORT | MotoGP Spain 2026

Marc Márquez made an excellent start and kept the lead into the opening corners. Marco Bezzecchi also launched well, moving from fourth to second, while Alex Márquez climbed to third. Jorge Martín gained places too and was running fourth. Alex Márquez quickly closed in on the front and soon moved into second behind his brother.

At the end of lap one, the top ten were: Marc Márquez, Alex Márquez, Bezzecchi, Martín, Di Giannantonio, Zarco, Acosta, Raúl Fernández, Bastianini and Ogura. On lap two, Alex Márquez took the lead. Moments later, Marc Márquez crashed at Turn 11 and was forced to retire, bringing an early end to his race.

From lap three, riders could serve long lap penalties, with Joan Mir and Toprak Razgatlioglu among those penalised. Further back, Enea Bastianini briefly passed Pedro Acosta, but a mistake at Turn 1 cost him the place again. Francesco Bagnaia, after finishing on the sprint podium, was only tenth.

On lap six, Ai Ogura overtook Acosta for eighth position. At the front, Alex Márquez started to build a small gap over Bezzecchi, while Di Giannantonio remained close behind in third. There was also a lively fight for tenth, where Bagnaia eventually got past Acosta at the final corner.

Race control then reviewed contact between Acosta and Raúl Fernández, which left damage on the KTM machine.

By lap ten, the top ten were: Alex Márquez, Bezzecchi, Di Giannantonio, Martín, Zarco, Raúl Fernández, Bastianini, Ogura, Bagnaia and Acosta. Bagnaia’s race then unravelled. He ran wide at Turn 1 and dropped down the order before later retiring with a technical problem on lap 14.

Ogura continued his strong race by overtaking Bastianini for seventh, while Alex Márquez extended his lead to more than two seconds. On lap twenty, the order was: Alex Márquez, Bezzecchi, Di Giannantonio, Martín, Zarco, Raúl Fernández, Ogura, Bastianini, Aldeguer and Acosta.

In the closing laps, Raúl Fernández passed Zarco, while Ogura also attacked in the battle for fifth place.

At the chequered flag, Alex Márquez secured a memorable home victory in front of the Jerez crowd. Bezzecchi finished second, with Di Giannantonio completing the podium.
